The Good Hour

The Good Hour
20 × 24 | Oil Pastel on Canvas Panel | Framed Original
$900
I've traveled to some of the most beautiful places in the world, but Louisiana sunsets remain my favorite.
The Good Hour is inspired by that fleeting moment after a summer rain when the atmosphere changes. The humidity softens, the breeze returns, and the sky seems to glow from within. For a brief stretch of time, the relentless heat loosens its grip and the entire landscape feels refreshed. It's a small mercy that every Louisianian recognizes.
Created during Gemini season and while exploring oil pastel as a new medium, this piece became an exercise in trusting the process. I originally set out to capture the wet, hazy atmosphere exactly as I remembered it, but the pastel had other ideas. Rather than forcing realism, I leaned into the material and allowed the colors to become more expressive.
Framed in a vintage thrifted frame, The Good Hour celebrates a distinctly Louisiana experience: the rare and beautiful moment when the weather gives us a break.
