Kind of Like a Country Song started as my Leo painting and accidentally became the transition into Virgo.

I spent most of Leo season traveling, so by the time I finally got to the sunflower I had already moved into Virgo season. The subject stayed Leo, big, bright and impossible to ignore, but without really intending to, the palette became earthy and grounded.

Most of the colors came from observation. The acid green didn't. That was creative licensing, and it's probably my favorite part.

There's personality here because of the scale, but this isn't a painting that asks you to figure it out. It's warm and familiar. A sunflower at the end of summer. Kind of like a country song you already know the words to.

That's part of what I love about making art. It doesn't have to be cerebral to matter. Sometimes something can simply be beautiful, familiar and really damn good to look at.

This piece brings warmth and personality into a room without asking the whole room to revolve around it.
