16 × 40 Original Painting

Created during Aries season, Iris Parade marked a season of trying something new. I painted it in preparation for the Moncus Park Iris Festival, drawing inspiration from one of Louisiana's most recognizable spring blooms while giving myself permission to paint more intuitively.

Rather than chasing realism, I focused on rhythm, movement, and color. The irises became less about documenting flowers and more about capturing the feeling of seeing them scattered across the landscape each spring. Familiar, joyful, and impossible to ignore.

The long horizontal composition allows the painting to unfold slowly, almost like walking through a field in bloom. From a distance it reads as bold and graphic. Up close, the layered brushstrokes and unexpected color relationships reveal themselves one mark at a time.
